BOSTON MOVERS RATES

Boston Moving Rates can vary from cheap to rates you can only see in your imagination.  In Boston, more than any other place in the US - the term "you pay for what you get" is apparent in most transactions including moving and storage.  Moving to, from or in Boston local and long distance moving rates :

LOCAL BOSTON MOVERS RATES

For an average move within Boston you should pay approximately $130-$175/hour for two men and a truck and $175-$200/hr for three men and a truck.  I would steer clear of movers who charge any additional fees on top of their base rate such as stair fees, elevator fees, long haul fees, shuttle fees, additional fees for basic coverage.  Lots of movers charge a fuel surcharge - usually around $40.

TRAVEL TIME RATES FOR LOCAL BOSTON MOVERS

Most movers will charge a travel fee.  All the "good" movers in the area do a flat rate of an hour to get to/from your location regardless of traffic, getting lost and any other miscellaneous delays.  I highly suggest you get a flat rate for travel time.  You would be surprised at how many movers in Boston are actually located in Waltham, Woburn, or even further out - travel time will get expensive if not flat rated.

LONG DISTANCE BOSTON MOVERS RATES

A little more complicated than local Boston movers rates, long distance rates are charged by the pound if the destination is over 150 miles -OR- across state lines.  Essentially, you are paying a rate per pound for all of your items.  Heavier things like books, appliances, non-IKEA type furniture will be much more expensive to move than light items like lamps, pillows, etc.  Again, movers will often add ridiculous additional fees.  The most expensive being the shuttle fee.  If you are moving from Boston to NYC, Miami or Chicago this fee is very common and is charged when a 53 ft. tractor trailer cannot access certain routes.  In NYC, there is always a shuttle fee unless you are using a long distance moving company who uses 26ft. trucks which are allowed in New York City.
